The Personal Health Train (PHT) is an invention by our Professor of Clinical Data Science: André Dekker.

To do great clinical research you need a lot of data, possibly more data then just the data you’ve collected. But getting data from other hospitals without GDPR headaches and making sure all the data works together, is a hard challenge to solve. So instead, André inversed the solution. Instead of collecting all that data from different hospitals and then running a scientific analysis, what if we could run the scientific analysis in each hospital (without the data leaving the hospital) and then collecting all the outcomes?

From this idea the Personal Health Train was born. Currently we are researching the application of the PHT to different domain, for example sharing personal data in a privacy preserving way for our ELSA lab in Heerlen.
