Beatrice (Bea) de Gelder is Professor of Social and Affective Neuroscience at Maastricht University, Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (FPN). Prior to her current assignments, she was a Senior Scientist at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, Harvard University, Boston.

She has been Ad hoc Member of advisory panels in the US like NIH and NSF and, in Europe, a member of   NWO (Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research)/ commissions, the Heart Foundation, Templeton Foundation, a frequent advisor for ANR, CNRS (France), INSERM and The Wellcome Trust. She is a member of the Future and Emerging Technology Advisory Board (FETAG) in EU-Horizon2020.

Her work frequently appears in the international media including the New York Times, Forbes, National geographic, Science and Nature podcasts. Her current research focuses on face and body recognition.
