Gijs is a professor of law who uses technology to better understand, apply, and evaluate the law. In his work, he also reflects on how technology is used and whether it complies or can comply with the law. Gijs aims to translate his academic work into societal impact, for example by developing practical tooling or software for non-technical users.
His legal background provides Gijs with the necessary legal knowledge. This experience in collaborating with other disciplines and leading a multidisciplinary group allows him to approach problems from a legal, technical, as well as a practical perspective, and to communicate with experts in different disciplines.
