Prof. Dr. Max Louwerse

Max is Professor by Special Appointment at Maastricht University and Professor of Cognitive Psychology and Artificial Intelligence at Tilburg University. He is an interdisciplinary researcher always on the look out for new innovative challenges and partnerships, combining science and industry, and is an engaging public speaker, on a variety of topics ranging from artificial intelligence and cognitive science, natural language processing and virtual reality, to medical informatics and the future of education.
Max worked 13 years in the United States as a professor in Psychology and Intelligent Systems (University of Memphis) and obtained his PhD in computational and psycholinguistics (University of Edinburgh). He acquired almost 40 million euros in grant funding, co-founded the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) and MindLabs. He founded the DAF Technology Lab, of which he currently is scientific director, a lab that provides a unique collaborative virtual reality environment with two CAVE systems that provides immersive video and audio. He holds two patents, and published over 170 articles in psychology, artificial intelligence, linguistics, and the cognitive sciences at large.
